Obituary for Raydene Smith

Raydene Johnson was born on February 24, 1941, to Walter Andrew Johnson I and Minnie Lee Johnson. She was the first born of two children (1daughter and 1 son). Raydene attended Grant Elementary/Middle School and Wheatley High School of San Antonio, Texas. Raydene found Christ at an early age when she and her family were members of West End Church of The Nazarene, in San Antonio, Texas, under the leadership of Rev. Leslie Cashmere. Later in life she joined the Lively Stone Pentecostal Church, now known as Lively Stone International Christian Church and was baptized under the leadership of her son, Bishop Ronald D. Smith, where she remained a “FAITHFUL” member until her transition to be with the Lord Raydene met her husband Herbert Sydney Smith Jr., (son of Dr. Herbert Sydney Smith Sr. and Minnie Linzey Smith) at Wheatley High School where they both attended. Raydene and Herbert were married in October 1954 and to this union 7 children were born, 5 sons and 2 daughters. Later in life Raydene met Robert Lee Turner Jr. and to this union 2 children were born, a son and a daughter. Everyone who knew Raydene, knew these 3 things about her. First, SHE COULD DRESS (and I mean she could dress). Secondly, SHE LOVED TO DECORATE. She was over the decoration committee at her church where she decorated for Pastor anniversaries, banquets, and Women Excellence Auxiliary anniversaries. She also decorated all 3 of her daughters and granddaughter’s weddings, among other events. Last, but not least, SHE LOVED TO SEW. We’ve seen her make different outfits for herself and others. She was also known for her BEAUTIFUL voice, and we loved to hear our mother sing. She WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED for those things. Raydene is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husbands, her 2 youngest children, son Robert Dwayne Turner and daughter Chanell Turner Daniels, Stepson Robert Lee Turner, her oldest grandson Thomas Edward Bonner III, great grandson Tyrone Sedric Darling Jr., and brother Prince Tyson. Raydene leaves to Cherish her memory, daughters Deborah Smith Childs (Darrell) and Jeanne Smith Parks (Dennis). Sons: Barry E. Smith, Bishop Ronald D. Smith (Velvet), Herbert A. Smith Sr. (Missy), Steven W. Smith (Patricia), Elder Calvin A. Smith (Sharon). 40 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren, a special cousin/friend Cherilyn Furret and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
