Obituary for Martha V. Stringer

Martha V. Stringer was born February 8, 1931 to Coleman Flint and Bertha Vaughn in Waelder, Texas, she was 1 of 9 children. Martha accepted Jesus Christ as her lord and savior at a young age. She attended church and instilled in the importance of prayer and faith into her children. Martha was a long-standing member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for 17 years, under the pastorship of Pastor Andrew Wilson. Martha attended school in her hometown until she started working at the age of 13 to help support her family. Martha quickly learned the principles of hard work which she passed down to her children and grandchildren. She had interest in the art of food, which turned into a love for cooking. Martha’s recipes will always remain a family secret amongst her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and those who come afterwards. Martha had experience in cooking in restaurants and catering, along with housekeeping, which was her primary employment until the age of 70. Martha was known for the lavish clothes, jewelry, and her famous LARGE church hats. Martha loved to model her lavish clothes and took pride in her upkeep as a woman. Martha was also known for her infamous variety of desserts, which she gifted to friends and family during the holidays. Martha’s extravagant personality captivated people wherever she went. She loved to travel to visit friends and family and left a large impact on those who she encountered. Martha V. Stringer was a force to be recon with. Martha was blessed to have two great loves in her life, one was short and sweet, and the other was long and lasting. Martha married Burney Perkins, which he fathered 5 of her children and the two remained married until his death in 1993. In April of 2004, Martha entered into her second and final marriage to Robert Lee Stringer. The two were inseparable and remained devoted until her final breath in 2023. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her 7 siblings, and 2 sons, Burl Perkins and Bernard Perkins. She leaves her memory to her husband, Robert Lee Stringer; 3 sons, Gitea Perkins, Robert Perkins (Cheryl), Tim Perkins; 1 daughter/granddaughter Summer Perkins; 3 siblings, Mildred Johnson, Dorthy Bailey, and Earl Wright Jr. (Susan), 11 grandchildren, Sharon Capers, Troy Perkins, Gitea T. Perkins, Azalea Perkins Chriss (Bryant), Bernard A. Perkins, Bertha A. Perkins, Brendon Perkins, Chant Perkins, Maleevia Perkins, and Tatiana Perkins. Lastly, she leaves behind a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and friends.
