Ira Lee Ashton Johnson was born in Columbus, Texas, December 5, 1942 to Amel Ashton, Sr. and Sylvia Jackson Ashton. Ira received her formal education on the Columbus Public School System. She accepted Christ into her life in 1977 at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Jim H. Richardson in San Antonio, Texas.
