Edward Lawrence Butler, Jr. was born June 27, 1958 to Edward Lawrence Butler, Sr. and Vernon "Ruth" Johnson Butler. Edward accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and later joined Trinity Baptist Church. He received his formal education in the San Antonio Independent School District where he attended Fox Tech High School. Edward excelled in sports and went on to attend Blin College.
