Obituary for Deacon Richard Eli

Deacon Richard Eli passed away on August 15, 2023, at the age of 80. He was born on March 1, 1943, to the late Rev. Wiley and Sis. Elna Jackson Eli in San Antonio, Texas. Richard accepted Christ at an early age and was one of the charter members of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, the church his father founded and organized. Richard was ordained as a Deacon and served on the Deacon Board, Brotherhood, Culinary Ministry, and was very faithful in Sunday School. Richard was a self-taught musician, playing the organ for the church. He played for many churches around the city. He was the musician for the male chorus, youth choir, and sanctuary choir at Galilee. Richard received his formal education in the public school system, graduating from Wheatley High School. Following graduation, Richard began working for Butter Krust. He decided that the cooking job was better for his brother Arthur, so he decided to see the world in a different fashion. He became a truck driver traveling all over the world. After driving for many years, Richard decided it was time to stay in the city and drive. He drove for Tezel and Cotter, SAISD School District, and for Ft. Sam until his health began to fail. On July 18, 1979, Richard married Shirlyn (Tiny) Jackson and to this union one son, Jason Wiley Eli was born. Jason was reared in love and in the Lord. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his faithful son, Jason Eli and daughter-in-law Alicia; two sisters-in-law, Charlie Eli, Micaela Eli and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
