Amelia Jane Brown Johnson was born on February 24, 1933, the third child to Lorenzo Brown and Paul Vina Dixon Brown, in Nacogdoches, Texas, where she spent her early years. After graduating from E.J. Campbell High School in 1950, Amelia continued her education at Vallejo Junior College in Vallejo, California, where she received her Associates Degree.
